Subject: Classic theatre, classic show
Phil and Friends continues to make amazingly good music, and in a classic opera house like this one, it made for an enjoyable night of classic dead songs and other classic rock nuggets. Old deadheads like me sat in the balcony, soaking in the sounds of our youth, freshly reinterpreted by a talented Dead cover band fronted by beloved Phil Lesh. Was it new and different? No. Did it send me to another universe? That would be too much to ask.
But if you asked me whether I prefer Phil and Friends to live Dead shows in the last few years before Jerry's passing, most certainly the answer is yes. The band is tight, energetic, and creative. They care about the sound, they care about their loyal fans. They give it all for us night after nite. And this nite's show was a very good one. So enjoy.
